Accessibility statement

Last updated: 11 September 2024

This statement applies to companylookup.org.uk. It explains how accessible the site is, what to do if you have trouble using it, and how to report a problem.

Confirm the claims below against your own testing before publication. An accessibility statement that overstates conformance is worse than none — it tells disabled users a barrier does not exist when it does.

1. Using this site

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this site. It has been built so that you should be able to:

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

2. How accessible this site is

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. We know of the following limitations.

The site needs JavaScript

Search results and company records are fetched and rendered in your browser. With JavaScript disabled or blocked, those pages will be empty. The static pages — home, terms, privacy and this statement — work without it.

Some content is machine-generated from register codes

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes are shown as numbers without their descriptions, and filing history entries are expanded from Companies House template codes. Both can read awkwardly with a screen reader. We plan to add the full description tables.

Wide tables scroll sideways

Officer and filing tables scroll horizontally on narrow screens rather than reflowing. This meets the reflow requirement but can be awkward with a magnifier at high zoom.

Register content is outside our control

Company names, addresses and filing descriptions come from Companies House exactly as filed. We cannot correct capitalisation, spelling, or unclear abbreviations in that data.

3. Feedback and contact

If you find a problem that is not listed here, or you need information on this site in a different format, email [email protected].

Tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what went wrong. We aim to reply within 5 working days.

If you need a company record in another format — large print, plain text, or read aloud — tell us the company number and how you would like it. We will send it within 10 working days.

4. Enforcement

This site is not operated by a public sector body, so the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not apply to it. We follow them voluntarily.

The Equality Act 2010 does apply. If you are dissatisfied with how we respond to an accessibility complaint, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service.

5. Technical information

We are committed to making this site accessible. It is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA, because of the limitations listed in section 2.
